(Long Live TWIN VQ!)

Last updated 3/31/98
This site only deals with the Twin VQ format(*.vqf)--(except the test page).
Don't have a Twin VQ player? . . . GET ONE!
Download here:
Players: --This player has a better graphical interface than Twin VQ. (Beta, expires April 30)
TWIN VQ--A Twin VQ player, not as appealing to the eye as Yamaha's.
Encoders: --Supports most of  the standard formats but is still in testing (beta version available, expires April 30).  Has less bugs than Twin VQ's encoder.
TWIN VQ--This encoder supports one more bit rate (32 kbs/channel) at 22 kHz sample rate than Yamaha's.  This encoder is also in testing (version expires June 30)  Has a few annoying bugs.
(I will try to keep up-to-date with these encoders/players)

--Streaming and CD quality music in Twin VQ format

--Don't believe Twin VQ is the best, here are the tests to prove it.

--To the many other great Twin VQ pages

VQ World was established because of the lack of VQ sites out there, It's the best technology out there and there's only a few good sites for it.  Also to provide a good list of Twin VQ format files, very few of the site have very many, and the one's who do have almost no files in streaming format.  That's what people want, they want to listen to them while they surf.  And there's one more issue, there are quite a few people out there who don't have the processing power to play CD quality VQ files, one of which includes me, and with the lower processor intensive formats, which are streamable, they can listen to them and stream them and the same time.  That is basically why I built this site.

So you ask, "What is Twin VQ?"  Twin VQ is a new compression format incorporating a new technique called Vector Quantization (VQ).  Through the use of this new technology it is now possible to stream good quality audio over the internet.  When I say good quality, I mean audio better than mp3 even at lower bit rates.  Example: #1 streaming over a 28.8 kbs modem: at 20 kbs rate: mp3 at 16 kHz mono--sounds ok; vqf at 22 kHz mono--sounds good. #2 24 kbs rate: mp3 at 22 kHz mono--sounds good; vqf at 22 kHz mono--sounds excellent.  The tests page has examples of all the different rates.  Through the use of this new format it is now possible to get good sounding music at compression ratios averaging 15:1 and up to 20:1, mpeg layer 3 averages only 12:1.

Enough reading, go listen to the music!

History of this page:
--3/31/98--
*This is version 1.0 of this page, technically this page has been up for a while but only in partial completion.
*I decided to add a page history and this is the first offical entery.
*I've replaced the typed title with a graphic which looks much better and people can use it to represent links to this page if they wish.
*I've also finished finding and setting up the links throughout the page.
*I will continue to try different looks, maybe add frames, but I'm going to leave it like this for a while.
